Bismuth is a metal over eight times rarer than silver, element #83 on the Periodic Table (sitting between lead and plutonium). Similar to a soap bubble, bismuth's oxide layer is a thin-enough diameter to refract white light into colours, appearing in the same order as an oil-on-water rainbow; this term is called "thin-film interference." It is diamagnetic (it repels magnetic fields) and a super-conductor at low temperatures. As bismuth naturally expands upon cooling, all casts are hollow so as to prevent cracking and expose the crystal structure.
